This is not so much a story about a particular photograph. Rather its a story about my “style” of photography, if you will. A style that has everything to do with me purchasing a Fujifilm X-E1 more than a year ago. It took me some time to figure out why the hell did I buy said piece of equipment (a buyer’s remorse was in full swing for the most part of last year, I kid you not, and it had nothing to do with the quality of said camera, for I assure you – its excellent. I simply had not the faintest of ideas what to do with the thing I had in my possession).
Anyway, fast forward to last winter when a week spent in Venezia made it perfectly clear how I want to use this camera. For me it was made to take pictures in the chiaroscuro style by using strong contrasts between light and dark. And by doing so I finally saw photographs that represent me the best. Saying that, Ive been told several times since that my pictures are “way too dark” or “it seems you’ve wondered around only at night”. Yes, admittedly, I sometimes do go overboard with the exposure compensation dial, but frankly Im not going to apologise for that or for my photographs being “too dark” for I am dramatic and mysterious like that.
Biankonera – white-black. Chiaroscuro – light-dark. Its meant to be, if I say so myself.

We all see the world, people, places…everything so differently and that is the one thing we should always remember. Our photography should look like that how we see things, and not care what others say. Like you know, I worry too much what others say, so now I am telling you just to do the opposite ❤

Trust me, I am a master worrier too, but I try to keep in mind that at least in photography I can do whatever I want. Lets always remember that 🙂
