reflected realities: return to the city beyond

“I have to admit I didn’t expect to see you here ever again.”
“Suppose I missed this hole way too much to resist its appeal.”
She smiled. “If you weren’t who you are it would sound almost believable, but since you are exactly who you are it means something has happened. Something crazy important for you of all…,” she paused. “To break your promise and return to the place where you always felt miserable.”
“There are times when it’s not all about me.”
How much more mystery could there be in this woman’s smiles?
“You came back because of someone else.”
He didn’t respond. He had told her way too much already. Her presence meant he had to reconsider the plan he had thought to be flawless so far. Even more – it was very much possible he had to abandon it completely and come up with a new plan, and he wasn’t sure there was enough time for that. “My return regards just me.”
